Dear reader
Welcome to FREJA’s fourth newsletter in 2022, where we would like to share what is happening in our part of the transport & logistics world.
Container rates are falling, Co2 rates are developing, and FREJA now has more options available for our customers.
FREJA wishes our customers and partners a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. The holidays give you time to relax and enjoy moments with friends and family. We wish for all a happy holiday season and look forward to doing business with you in 2023.
This year our Christmas donation has been allocated Danish Cancer Society. We support their research in finding the best treatment for every single patient and their efforts in fighting cancer.
We thank you for your interest in our newsletter and wish you a pleasant reading.
Yours sincerely
Jan Sunde
EU ETS for road transport and fuels for additional sectors
Earlier this year, the Danish parliament agreed to implement a Co2 tax on road transport.
FREJA supports the green transition, but we were disappointed to discover that they will spend part of the taxes on administering the tax. It would be more beneficial for the industry if the taxes funded the transition of the transport industry.

So we are pleased to discover that the Council of EU compiled a provisional deal on EU commissions, this includes road and maritime transport.
The difference in implementation is that the Danish parliament will make it kilometer-based and regulate this within the transport companies. In opposition, the EU provisional deal will tax the fuel suppliers. FREJA considers this a more efficient way of administering the tax and ensuring a cost-effective reduction of emissions. Furthermore, parts of the revenue will support a Social Climate Fund instead of covering administrative costs.

FREJA supports the provisional deal from the Council of EU, as it represents FREJAs ambitions of creating sustainable alternatives in a Co2-heavy industry.

The future is hard to predict, but we expect the rates to keep at a low level for 2023 as we have in the beginning of a recession, and carriers will have a lot of new ships in 2023-2024. This will increase the capacity while the demand is still low.
