Market update: Sea freight from Asia to Europe remains under pressure
The market for container imports from Asia to Europe remains under pressure. Freight rates are increasing, demand remains high, and shipping lines continue to manage capacity tightly.
Increasing freight rates
Shipping lines are increasing both spot and contract rates due to tight capacity and strong demand. At the same time, several shipping lines have announced new surcharges, including Peak Season Surcharge, which may further impact price levels in July.
High demand
Shipments of seasonal goods, including promotional and Christmas products bound for Europe, are adding further pressure on both space and equipment.
Limited capacity
Shipping lines continue to manage capacity through blank sailings and adjusted sailing frequencies. As a result, available space remains limited, which may make it more difficult to secure capacity on preferred departures.
Our recommendation
We recommend planning ahead and booking as early as possible to secure space and minimize the risk of delays and additional costs.
Please stay in close dialogue with your local FREJA contact regarding current rates, capacity and alternative options.
At FREJA, we follow the market closely and are ready to advise you on the right solution for your specific supply chain.
