FREJA introduces a capacity surcharge on all road transports on 16th October 2017
In Europe, we experience an increasing financial growth, which naturally leads to an increasing need to move goods around, and this gives more traffic on the roads. At the same time a large amount of road repairs are going on at the European highways. These conditions have given the transport business a highly reduced productivity.
In addition, we have a general lack of drivers in the entire Eurozone. This lack of drivers is partly caused by the increasing demands, partly by the authorities’ tightened regulations especially for respecting the hours of rest during the weekends. We have followed the development over the summer and we now realise - after the holiday season has ended in Europe - that there is a large lack of capacity and that it escalates day by day.
So far, FREJA has taken on the extra costs caused by the lack of capacity, but we predict the pressure to continue. This further increases the requirements on us as transport partner in order to sustain the capacity, which is necessary to deliver the service and quality that we have promised you as customer.
Therefore, we find it necessary to introduce a capacity surcharge of 5.40% starting 16th October 2017.
We recognise that it deviates from our normal price polity to change a price in the middle of an agreement period, but we find it necessary in consideration of the previously mentioned conditions, which we experience at the moment.
If you have any questions to the above, please feel free to contact your normal contact person in FREJA.
We hope for your understanding of this exceptional situation and look forward to continue our cooperation.
The weather situation in Scandinavia is causing us some challenges these days. The snowfall is heavy, the roads are slippery and passability is reduced. We therefore experience some delays in deliveries.
We apologies for the inconveniencies, and encourage you to reach out to your contact person in FREJA for more information.
At FREJA Transport & Logistics, we are constantly exploring various sustainable transportation modes. We make an effort to optimize our environmental efforts aiming to make a meaningful contribution to the collective fight against climate change. We invest in training our employees, empowering them to integrate environmental considerations into their daily work.
We also want to help our customers and business partners incorporate CO2 footprint into their supply chains and integrate the environment into their solutions. Therefore, we introduce the FREJA Footprint Analyzer.
With this tool, you can get an overview of your company’s CO2 footprint throughout the transportation process. You can immediately see what happens to your CO2 footprint when you change the mode of transportation between trucks, HVO trucks, trains, and ships, and what happens to the footprint when you mix different modes of transportation in new ways.
While FREJA’s Footprint Analyzer doesn’t provide precise values, it offers valuable insights into the relative differences between these transportation modes based on existing FREJA data. The tool allows you to explore diverse solutions and optimize your CO2 footprint across your entire supply chain.
Experiment with different scenarios and engage with us for precise CO2 calculations tailored to your transportation solutions. FREJA's Footprint Analyzer can support your business with the following:
- Get an overview of your CO2 footprint
Understanding your supply chain’s CO2 emissions is the first important step in achieving your environmental goals. - Optimize your supply chain
Find the right balance between CO2 footprint, costs, service levels, and risk. - Calculate potential emissions compensation
Once you know your CO2 footprint, you can calculate how much you need to invest in environmental projects to compensate for your CO2 emissions. - Sustainable fuel
Benefit from our knowledge of green fuels and reduce emissions without changing your operations. For example, see what happens if you switch from trucks to HVO trucks.

As the Chinese New Year approaches, set between February 10 and February 16, it is a good idea to plan accordingly. Most factories typically close one week before the celebrations and may remain closed for 1-3 weeks afterward.
If you are importing from China, please consider the following
- Ensure orders are placed well in advance to accommodate factory closures
- Plan ahead with your freight forwarder as schedules and available capacity may be affected
- Check when factories resume operations again after the holiday period
Impact on freight rates
During this period, you might experience a significant price increase due to rising demand. Furthermore, the current situation in the Red Sea has added extra pressure on capacity and containers, resulting in longer transit times, additional surcharges, and increased freight rates.
We recommend our customers book well in advance during this period to avoid delays or disruptions in their supply chains. Moreover, a sea-air solution could also be relevant for your company. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your local contact at FREJA or David Nielsen, Head of Business Development Air & Ocean, if you wish to explore how we can support your business.
General shipping tips for the Chinese New Year
- Pre-plan Deliveries
Coordinate in advance with suppliers and freight forwarders. - Avoid Short Notice Orders
Try to minimize last-minute orders. - Advance Booking
Book transports early—ideally 2-3 weeks before departure for sea freight. - Terminal and Warehouse Congestion
Expect congestion around the New Year; verify sailing plans for LCL movements. - Consider Alternatives
For urgent deliveries, consider a sea-air solution, but schedule flights a few weeks ahead. - Confirm Schedules
Recheck and confirm schedules with all involved parties before the holiday period.

In connection with the Chinese New Year (CNY), which is from the 24th – 30th January 2020, we bring some useful information for our customers to help you prepare for it.
Most factories close one week before and up to 1-3 weeks after the Chinese New Year, as it is common for Chinese people to travel home to be with their families. This is thus regarded as the world's largest annual movement of people, as approximately 2.5 billion people are traveling in a very short time.
If you are importing from China, please note the following:
- The delivery time of the factories. Check this to make sure that most orders are shipped well in advance of the Chinese New Year.
- Make a freight plan with your freight forwarder as the period affects the schedules, as well as the capacity of vessels, aircraft, railways, and trucks.
- Examine the factories’ opening hours during the period to avoid surprises. As mentioned above, many factories are closed from 1 to 3 weeks after the official holiday period. For this reason, you should check, when your factory can deliver again after the holiday period has ended.
Impact on freight rates
Because of this big celebration, you should also be prepared for a significant price increase during this period. From November/December, shipping prices are usually higher due to the rising demand. This will continue until the holiday itself, but after the holiday season, prices usually decrease again in response to falling demand. After the holiday season, shipping companies often reduce the capacity to maintain the prices.
Shipping tips for the Chinese New Year
- Make a delivery plan in advance with suppliers and freight forwarders.
- Try to avoid orders at short notice.
- Book your transports well in advance - preferably 2-3 weeks before departure for sea freight.
- Check the sailing plans if you have LCL movements. Terminals and warehouses are congested in the weeks before the Chinese New Year.
- Airfreight and rail transport are an alternative for urgent deliveries. However, flights must also be scheduled a few weeks in advance as they will be filled up.
- Check everything again and get the schedule confirmed with everyone involved in the pre-holiday period.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact your local FREJAN.

Based on a new operational setup in Sweden, FREJA has taken the decision to scale down operations in Gothenburg and close the small branch. Production is moved to the larger locations in Helsingborg and Jönköping. Operations will not be affected by the change and all relevant parties are informed. Hence, we will continuously work focused to serve our current and future customers.
The change will allow for a leaner and simpler operations setup that, in time, will benefit customers and partners further.
