    Update May 15, 2023 at 08:00

Despite the cancellation of the nationwide protest actions it turns out that some drivers have decided to carry out individual actions. Therefore, access to the highways have been blocked in many parts of Denmark. This creates delays and irregularities at the moment.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Update May 11, 2023 at 15:00

The actions which were planned to take place in Denmark Monday May 15, 2023 have been cancelled. We therefore expect a normal traffic situation next week.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As written in the Danish press, a group of hauliers have announced nationwide protest actions on May 15, 2023. The protest actions will impact major Danish roads and hubs and thereby stop the supply chain throughout the country. The reason for the protest actions is the introduction of road tax for trucks in Denmark in 2025.

FREJA does NOT support these actions. However, we must expect that the traffic throughout the country will be effected. We therefore foresee delays in relation to collections and deliveries on May 15, 2023 and the following days.

We therefore ask our customers to take the necessary precautions in relation to the conflict.

For further information please contact your normal contact person in FREJA.

The Transport Logistic fair will take place in Munich from 9 to 12 May. The event brings together the major service providers in the transport, logistics and forwarding sector. FREJA Finland will participate in a trade fair showcasing its comprehensive transportation services, including international road transport, sea and air freight, and demanding special transports.

"We are one of Finland's most significant service providers in international transportation and the long-term choice of our customers as a transportation partner. We have versatile transportation solutions for import and export, and in road transportation alone, we have about 850 box trailers and approximately 100 temperature-controlled trailers," says Urmas.

FREJA is particularly known for its customer satisfaction and problem-solving abilities.

According to Urmas, international trade fairs play a significant role in the transportation industry.

"It is important for us to participate in these international transport fairs. This year's fair is particularly meaningful as the 2021 fair was only held virtually," says CEO Matti Urmas.

"The transport industry is based on partnerships, and it is important to meet face-to-face: virtual communication alone is no substitute. It's important for us to keep up with developments in the industry and the world's largest transport trade fairs also give us a glimpse of where the transport sector is heading."

We will be in our familiar stand location: hall B3, stand 321/422

Germany's Transport Logistic is the world's leading event for logistics, IT and supply chain management.

The world's largest transport trade fair attracts up to 64,000 visitors from more than 125 countries. Some 2 374 exhibitors will be present.

In addition to road transport service providers, the fair will also feature maritime and air cargo service providers.

All aspects of freight services are represented, from transport and forwarding services to IT software and equipment for freight handling.

The event has been held in Munich since 1978.

We warmly welcome you to meet us and discuss international transport!

FREJA Transport & Logistics AB is expanding in Sweden and has now entered into an agreement with Tosito AB to build a brand new environmentally certified logistics property in Jönköping. FREJA Transport & Logistics AB quadruples capacity in Jönköping to 20,000 square meters. Construction is starting now and should be ready for occupancy in the spring of 2024.

The property company Tosito has signed a lease with FREJA Transport & Logistics for a logistics property in Torsvik. The logistics property is starting to be built now and will be approximately 20,000 square meters with occupancy in spring 2024. The lease is a so-called green lease, and the building will be environmentally certified according to Miljöbyggnad.

"We are very happy that FREJA has chosen to grow further at Torsvik in Jönköping. We have a good collaboration, and we are happy that we have received their trust again. We see this as proof that we had a successful collaboration and look forward to following their journey in the coming years", says Tommy Fritz, CEO at Tosito.

FREJA Transport & Logistics AB is happy that we, in collaboration with Tosito AB after a good and professional negotiation process, have arrived at a concept solution for the construction of logistics, cross-dock terminal, and office premises, which means that we quadruple our square meters in Jönköping. From the start, there has been a good dialogue and an understanding of the importance for FREJA to build an environmentally friendly, future-proof modern property.

"The decision about the expansion is partly based on a desire to expand in the region. Jönköping is an important point in Sweden for our setup, and not least the fine development and increase in volume we had, which made us outgrow our current property. FREJA is therefore looking forward with joy to now being able to offer the necessary space for all the requests we receive in relation to the services we can offer current and potential new customers", says Morten Dreyer, CEO at FREJA Transport & Logistics AB.

New potential customers are welcome to contact FREJA Transport & Logistics AB on +46 36 18 13 51 if you want to know more about what we can offer when the property is ready.

Welcome to FREJA's first newsletter in 2023, where we would like to share with you what is happening in our part of the industry.

In Poland, FREJA welcomed a new managing director, Anna Jasiak, on the 1st of February. Anna is already a familiar face in FREJA, as she has been employed for several years and most recently comes from a position as CFO in FREJA Poland. We look forward to continue working with Anna.

FREJA has recently participated in the World Cargo Alliance (WCA) in Singapore with the aim of showing our skills in sea and air freight as well as creating new contacts and alliances.

Contacts and alliances are also important for our students and student assistants. That is why they are all part of the Student Network that our parent company USTC has formed specifically for students etc. Recently, FREJA hosted an event where everyone was invited to network and socialize.

At FREJA, we also think it is important to support young athletes and their sport. We have supported Victor Svendsen for a number of years. It has been exciting to follow his badminton career and his rise through the ranks, where he now ranks as No. 44 in the world.

In 2025, there will be a Danish road tax charge of 2 billion, out of which around 280 million DKK will be allocated for administration and approximately 10 million for green conversion. The industry advocates for imposing a fuel tax so that anyone using fuel would be subject to the tax. Furthermore, the industry suggests that the approximately 280 million allotted for administration be redirected towards aiding the green transition. Please refer to our previous statement on this issue.

It's unfortunate, as FREJA would like to witness a green development in the industry, in tandem with the government's proposals. To ensure that the agreement has the intended effectiveness, FREJA suggests that the revenue be invested in the green transition instead of being remitted to the state treasury.

I thank you for your interest in the newsletter and wish you good reading.

    Sincerely
    Jan Sunde

    FREJA at WCA Singapore 2023

FREJA Transport & Logistics recently participated in the World Cargo Alliance (WCA) in Singapore, showcasing our capabilities in sea and air freight. The event brought together some of the biggest names in logistics from across the world, providing a platform for industry players to network and discuss the latest trends in the field.

FREJA has been providing end-to-end solutions for businesses in various industries for over three decades. With a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, we have expanded our services to all areas within logistics to enable a one-stop solution for our customers.

During the WCA, FREJA's representatives highlighted the company's expertise in sea and air freight, two critical modes of transport for the global supply chain. They met up with people from all over the world to discuss the various possibilities and potentials. “This is the first time people met up after a three-year break due to covid”, says Hongyi Niu, director of global forwarding at FREJA, and he continues, “it is important we meet up with our partners from the world to talk about the status and to discuss the future cooperation. As in the world of transportation, we need trusted partners globally to serve our valuable clients”.

In sea freight, FREJA offers a range of services, including Full Container Load (FCL) and Less than Container Load (LCL) shipments. Our strong relationships with major carriers enable us to provide reliable and cost-effective solutions to clients. FREJA's team of experts also provides tailored advice and support to clients, ensuring that their cargo is transported safely and efficiently.

In air freight, FREJA's global network of partners and carriers enables us to provide fast and flexible solutions to clients. We offer a range of services, including express, standard, and charter options, depending on the urgency and size of the shipment. FREJA's team of air freight specialists works closely with clients to ensure that their cargo is delivered on time and in perfect condition.

Last but not the least, FREJA is capable of offering combined transport not only by land but also by the mode called “air-in & sea-out” or “sea-in & air-out”. This is a very efficient product which is cheaper than by air all the way and faster than by sea all the way. This product is often used when crossing continents, especially for those destinations where sea freight transit time can be 50 days or more.

Overall, FREJA's participation in the WCA highlighted our strengths in sea and air freight, demonstrating our commitment to providing high-quality logistics solutions to clients across the world. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, we are well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of the global supply chain.

Student network – a cooperation between trainees and student assistants in the USTC Group in Denmark

As part of the USTC Group, FREJA is also part of the USTC Student Network. The program was established in Q4 2022 in order to create a network among trainees and student assistants across the different companies in USTC.

We have a total of more than 100 trainees and student assistants in Denmark, and we find it very important to give them the opportunity to network and learn about the different companies within the group.

Recently, FREJA hosted an event with the participation of 42 trainees and student assistants. The event was divided into three parts: a presentation of FREJA, a teambuilding activity, and dinner plus a social gathering. We were very happy to accommodate the young people and see them interact across companies and create new relations.

Emilie Krogh – one of the organizers says: “It is of great value to know each other’s activities and in the future be able to make use of the synergies among the members of the group. We have passed on the baton and look forward to the upcoming event in May”.

FREJA’s impressive lineup of sports partners: A team of elite athletes

FREJA Transport & Logistics is not only a leading Nordic transport and logistics company, but we are also committed to supporting and empowering people to achieve their goals. We sponsor a diverse group of athletes, including Emil Mader Kjær and Victor Svendsen, who have been making waves in their respective sports.

Emil Mader Kjær is a sprinting athlete who has been sponsored by FREJA since 2020. He has been making significant strides in his athletic career, breaking records and winning medals at various competitions. Emil is a promising athlete who has his sights set on becoming one of the best in the world, and FREJA's sponsorship has allowed him to travel across the world to pursue his dreams of being competitive in a major final. Emil is a proudly sponsored FREJA athlete and one of the fastest sprinters Denmark has ever produced. Emil is currently training for the Olympic Games in 2024, where he aims to participate individually and with the Danish 4x100m relay team.

Victor Svendsen is another athlete that FREJA sponsors. He is a badminton player who has been playing at an elite level for several years. Victor has been part of the Danish national team and has won several tournaments, including the Danish championship. FREJA's sponsorship has enabled him to focus on his training and performance, ensuring that he can continue to excel in his sport.

"It gives me some confidence that FREJA has chosen to support me and believe in my badminton project. I am really grateful for the continuous support they have been showing!" Says Victor Svendsen. FREJA has sponsored Victor since August 2015.

These are just two examples of the many athletes that FREJA sponsors. We have a long-standing tradition of supporting talented individuals across various sports. Previously, we sponsored the AGF women's handball team and Freja Ravn, a Danish badminton player.

Furthermore, FREJA has partnerships with organizations such as Skive IF, Herning Bluefox, FC Midtjylland, and Skjern Håndbold.

FREJA's sponsorship of athletes is a testament to the company's commitment to supporting people and empowering them to achieve their goals. We recognize the importance of sports and athletics in promoting physical and mental well-being, and we are proud to be a part of that journey for many talented individuals.

In conclusion, FREJA's sponsorship of athletes like Emil Mader Kjær and Victor Svendsen highlights our dedication to supporting people and promoting sports and athletics. As we continue to grow and expand our services, we remain committed to making a positive impact on the communities we serve.

A settlement was reached in the stevedoring strike of the Federation of Transport Workers (AKT) on on the evening of 1 March. The agreement reached will end all industrial action immediately and work will resume as soon as possible. However, at the latest, the stevedores must return to their normal shift starting on 4 March.

The strike started on 15 February.

    – Although transport can now be carried out and stevedoring will return to normal when the stevedores return to work, it will unfortunately take time for the situation to return to normal. Supply chains are now in disarray due to the strike. It will take time to reorganise and find the best possible routing, says Matti Urmas, Managing Director of FREJA Finland.

Goods are in the ports waiting to be shipped and it takes time to ship the cargo.

    – If there are uncertainties about your shipment, your own dedicated contact person is happy to help and tell the status of your transport.

The Transport Workers' Federation (AKT) is launching strikes in the stevedoring sector and in three road transport sectors.
The vast majority of Finland's exports and imports of goods pass through ports.
The first strikes will start as early as midnight today. Negotiations were held until the last minute. The AKT is also issuing new strike warnings from 1 March.

The strikes will start on Wednesday 15 February

    • The stevedoring strike in the ports will start tomorrow 15 February at 6.00 a.m. and from then on until further notice.
    • The strikes in the lorry, tanker and oil product sectors will start at the turn of the day on 15 February and end at midnight on 21 February.
    • The strike in the terminal sector will start tomorrow morning 15 February at 6.00 a.m. and will continue until 6.00 a.m. on 22 February.

More information on the sites affected by the strike can be found on the AKT website (in Finnish!)

Finnlines, for example, has announced that if a strike starts, only units with a driver will be loaded. Read more in our previous news!

The strike will affect around 9000 workers.

New strike warnings from 1 March

Strict collective bargaining is underway in key sectors for Finnish exports and imports.

    - We are closely monitoring the situation and doing our best to anticipate the impact on international transport. By law, industrial action must be announced at least two weeks before it starts. For our customers, the emphasis is now on being on the road early, so it pays to place transport orders well in advance," says Matti Urmas, Managing Director of FREJA Transport & Logistics Oy.

The stevedoring sector is already subject to an overtime ban issued by the Transport Workers' Federation (AKT), which came into force on 1 February.

    - The main impact of the overtime ban is on weekends, so there are no major delays in transport in the foreseeable future. For up-to-date information on the status of your shipment, please contact your contact person. Of course, it would be desirable for all sectors to reach an agreement without industrial action.

Your FREJA contact will tell you the status of your shipment

Finnlines announced on Monday 30 January that if the overtime ban comes into force and no agreement is reached, work in ports will be suspended between 15.30 on Saturday and 06.45 on Monday. The Sunday departure from Helsinki to Travemünde at 15.00 and the Monday departure from Travemünde to Helsinki at 2.00 will be cancelled. According to Finnlines, there will be other changes to the timetable. These changes will cause congestion in the port, and you should be prepared for delays in unloading and loading times.

AKT strikes will start on Wednesday 15 February if no agreement is reached

On Tuesday 31 January, the AKT has issued a strike warning to the stevedoring sector, in addition to the current overtime ban.

Below are the strike timetables if the strikes go ahead.

According to the AKT, a total of around 9 000 workers will be affected.

    AKT strike timetables

    - Strike in the stevedoring sector from 15 February at 06.00 until further notice: If the strike starts, it will cover all port operations, including unloading, loading, reception and release of units.

    - Trucking strike 15.2. from 00.00 to 21.2. from 24.00

    - Tanker and oil products strike 15.2. 00.00-21.2. 24.00

    - Terminal sector strike 15.2. 06.00-22.2. 06.00

Page on the state of the negotiations maintained by the AKT.

Finnlines will not transport trucks without a driver during the strike

Finnlines announced on Monday that units without drivers will not be loaded at all in the event of a strike. The HansaLink line between Helsinki and Travemünde will operate as scheduled, but will only transport trucks with a driver.

If no agreement can be reached during Monday, Finnlines will not load trailers or other units without a driver, starting with the departure from Travemünde to Helsinki at 2.45 am on 14 February. Departure from Helsinki to Travemünde on 14 February at 16.15 will be loaded as normal. If a strike starts, only units with a driver will be loaded.

The Naantali-Kapellskär line (FinnLink) will operate as scheduled, but units without a driver will not be loaded.

    Strike situation in other sectors

The PAM Service sector union has called off all industrial action after reaching an agreement on working conditions.

The Technology Industry and the Trade Union Pro reached an agreement on working conditions and the strike was suspended.

The Employees' Federation ERTO and the Trade Union Confederation Pro also reached an agreement on working conditions before the strike in the financial management sector started.

The website of the Office of the National Mediator provides comprehensive information on the bargaining situation in the various sectors, provided that the National Mediator is involved.
